Whatever Happened To Sin

Sin has four characteristics: Self-sufficiency instead of faith, self-will instead of submission,
self-seeking instead of benevolence; self-righteousness instead of humility.
E. Paul Hovey

Since we seldom if ever accurately judge sin for what it is, we need God’s perspective… Sin deceives, sin defiles and sin destroys. Sin denies, demeans, depraves, debases and sin degrades. Sin desires defeat by disguising it’s devious demands.

Sin derails and demolishes. Sin demoralizes and deviates while dishonoring and disrupting. Sin dissolves, disconnects and disposes. Sin deadens the downcast and discourages disciples. Sin distorts, distracts, divides, and dissatisfies. Sin corrupts and condemns the soul while hardening the conscience. Sin drudges up even more disgusting sin.

God forbids sin because it is contrary to His perfect will for us. Our personal hatred and avoidance of sin can reflect our love for God. This in turn helps us understand who we are in Christ.

Our conviction of sin will always be in proportion to our pursuit of God’s presence in our lives. The more a person is addicted to a vice, the less he or she is open to God's advice.

Playing around with sin is like walking on a perilous path filled with landmines. Sin would probably have less glamour and attraction if its consequences occurred immediately. Eventually secret sins will make headlines … if not on earth, they will certainly be revealed in heaven.

We gain the victory when we give up sin's pleasure in exchange for Christ’s power. We cannot put our sins behind us until we are willing to face them. When we confess, God covers all our sins with the blood of His Son Jesus. God is ready to forgive and restore with His unconditional love for those who repent.

God has promised to provide a way of escape in any situation we face in life where there is temptation. It is our choice to turn away from sin. When we do, we discover God's victorious power. God tests us to bring out the best; Satan tempts us to bring out the worst. Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit, but shame and guilt come from the devil.

It’s been said that prayers will either make a man stop sinning, or the sin will make him stop praying. Pray today that you will flee from sin as you commit 2 Timothy 2:22 to memory. – Dave Davidson

I have made many mistakes in my Christian life. I often wish I could go back in time and warn myself. But I did have a warning: God’s word… We need to heed His warnings so that we don’t end up spending years trying to unwind problems which result when we step out from under God’s protective umbrella, His commandments. Jesus knows every one of the devil’s traps. He knows the way through the minefield of Life. All we have to do is follow. – Bob Hartman
